How to invest in the right furniture

How to invest in the right furniture

When you’re looking to redo your decor, it’s safe to say that you can spend a lot of time thinking about how you’re going to approach it. You’ll often find yourself looking for inspiration, focusing on paint colours, and trying to get the right look as you add pieces into your space. From furniture to fabrics, ornaments and artwork, you’ll often find that the pieces you throw together really make a difference to how the room looks and feels.

It’s always important to make sure that you choose the right pieces, especially when it comes to furniture. So, whether you’re moving into a new place or you’re sprucing what you’ve got, here are five tips that will help you to make sure you are investing the right way.

Quality Over Quantity

It’s so easy to go for furniture that is going to come in under budget. Of course we are all money conscious and want to get the most out of our money. But be aware of the quality you are buying. You may be stretching your money further, but you could just be compromising on the quality and not quiet getting the look you’re after.

When choosing high-quality furniture, you’ll find that it not only looks better, but it’s going to last a lot longer too – so it’s always worth the investment, even though it might pinch on your purse at first!

Function Over Fashion

With furniture, it’s so easy to get drawn into the look of something more so than the functionality of the product.

Big mistake.

Know what you’re shopping for and the purpose of your furniture before you even step into a shop. Shopping for function first will ensure you purchase furniture pieces that will be suitable for your space, workable and well worth the investment.

Don’t always go for the trends neither. Instead, consider what you need the furniture for and what you’re going to get out of it. A piece worth £500 but will enhance the use of your space vs a piece worth £250 which is more of a feature is always the best buy!

Go For Classics

Another really great motto to stick by is classics. Always invest in classics.

Trendy pieces can be fun and exciting, but classics can last a lifetime. Whether it’s a tan leather sofa or a solid coffee table, when you’re investing in pieces that are timeless, you’re making a smart choice. You’re less likely to get sick of them or change your mind. They can even move with the times and interior trends. And more likely to live through the changing times of your home including additional family members!

Sit On It

If you want to make sure that you’re really investing in the right pieces, wait awhile. Take a look at the pieces in person, then go away and think about them. Be sure to shop around to find the best pieces too. Making a rash decision will often mean that you’ve not really thought about it. But when you sit on a decision and you can’t stop thinking about the piece of furniture in question, you know that it’s right.

Mix Old With New

Finally, think about mixing things up a little. Don’t be afraid to bring in antiques and mix them up with some of your modern pieces. Antique pieces can really add character and warmth to your home, and can start your collection of memorable and timeless pieces. They’re a great way to spread out your investments, and are awesome places to shop for furniture and inspiration too!
