I will not be the only blogger that will have received a email suggesting a external link to a ‘relevant post’ should be included in your post. And every other time I have sighed because how many times do I have to delete such emails for them to get the idea.
But hold it right there. Just before you either bin it for good, or tell them to piss off. Lemme give you a couple of reasons why you might want to think again.

External links boost your SEO
Did you know, external links embedded into your posts can boost your SEO on your site! This can only mean good news! So, if the blog post they are relating to lacks a little relevance or any external links at all, consider popping that little one in, it will do a world of good for your very own SEO!
You might get a link back?!
Most of the time, these companies are looking for links as hey, it can boost their Domain Authority. Now you can’t blame them by asking because we all know how tough it can be to raise that metric on a site! But wait a second, I scratch your back, you scratch mine?
Instead of telling them politely to bugger off, why not ask if a link to your ‘very valuable and related content‘ can be embedded into their page too?
You may get a no, but you don’t get without asking. All of a sudden, a link can produce heavy blog traffic and a input towards your very own domain authority!
It may actually be valuable to your readers
Last but by no means least, it might actually be valuable to your readers. You know, those people you actually blog for. Have a look and read the post they want you to link to and really think about how much help this could be for your readers. If it reiterates something you are preaching in your own content, it can only be good!
Do you get those emails?
