I love a good book! I have never been one for ebooks, not even when the kindle landed and everyone seemed to think the old days of page turning had surpassed. Alas, a report in The Guardian shows people still love to have a book that they can hold, turn the pages, and even smell! Faith is indeed restored!
If you are an avid reader, like me, and have quite a collection at home, you may consider creating a home library. They don’t have to be a physical room, ( although it would be lovely if you have the space ), it can be a corner in your lounge, or a wall in your hall. Whatever the space you have, I have some tips on how to create the perfect snug spot to nestle down and read, as well as a real home for your beloved collection.
Somewhere to keep your books
If you really want to expand your collection, or give them a spot in your home it deserves, then you are going to need somewhere to not only store your books but also display them so that you can find your favourites with ease. You will need plenty of shelves to have your books displayed and depending on the size of your space, you may wish to consider having built-in shelves installed, which can help to make the most of a limited amount of space that you may have available.
Scour home stores like Ikea for the best Billy bookcases to suit your space. They come in all shapes and sizes so you’re bound to find something that will work.
Create a comfy nook
Once you have a home for your books, you really need somewhere to enjoy them. A good nook as it were. The most popular choice is a comfortable armchair or sofa. If you have the space, you should opt for antique writing desks which help to give the space some character, and double as a perfect working area too!
Whatever you decide, make sure its comfy enough to fully immerse and enjoy your latest read.
Lighting Is crucial
You will want to have as much natural light as possible when it comes to your reading nook! You’ll also need to have plenty of artificial light also, for those late night reads! Choose reading lamps or multiple table lamps in and around your reading area. Make sure the bulbs are neither too bright or dim. Poor lighting can strain your eyes and make it incredibly uncomfortable and painful to read.
All in all, when creating your at home book nook, make sure you plan it carefully. With some careful planning and attention to detail, you can create the perfect place in your home where you can relax and enjoy your books in peace.
