Bleach has certainly been over used on mine, so I am always keen to spare it any further damage. Turns out, I seem to be doing a pretty good job of taking care of it, and it’s thanks to some simple things I avoid when it comes to hair care!
Heat Damage |
I try and keep any heat damage to a minimum. I can’t remember the last time I actually blow dried my own hair. I wash my hair in the evening and go to bed mostly with damp hair. I ensure my hair is above my head when sleeping to avoid have a stiff neck in the morning. When using straighteners and curlers on my hair, I ensure I use plenty of heat spray before hand.
Conditioning |
This is something I read online and it has worked miracles on my hair. When washing my hair, I apply conditioner first to my ends, and then shampoo my roots second. I do not shampoo my ends and just let the shampoo run into the ends.
Washing |
I try and wash my hair as little as often. I usually go 3-4 days without washing my hair and whilst I hate the feel of my hair on the last day, It does my hair a world of good! When I do wash my hair, I wish as described in the point above.
Tangle Teezer |
My tangle teezer is my holy grail and I barely brush my hair with anything but it! It’s fairly gentle on my hair and limits the damage to my hair. I try and not brush my hair when it is wet, since this can damage it even more so, but sometimes this just can’t be helped.
Maintaining |
I try and get my hair cut / trimmed every 12 weeks. Sometimes this is harder to do, since it can be pretty expensive with a colour on top of that. Keeping your hair trimmed helps reduce split ends creating havoc further up your hair strands. Don’t leave your hair too long without a cut as it will only do more damage than good.
